Tsunamis
Most tsunamis are caused by earthquakes. The rubbing between the subducting plate and the dominant plate is huge. This rubbing prevents a slow and steady rate of subduction and keeps the two plates from becoming "stuck". The stuck plates descend into the mantle causes a slow bend in the overriding plate. The result is a buildup of energy similar to the energy stored in a packed in spring. Energy can build up in the overriding plate over a long period of time. The overriding plate snaps back into a wild position. This motion is the cause of the tsunami.
